From the personal statement to the tenure portfolio, writing defines the career of an academic. Today, we cannot watch students leave our classrooms or bookstores with the idea that we teach only that their screen time is to blame for social ills: we need words to teach, to uplift, and to spark fire in their–and our–future.
Ink Wash Edits
…was founded on the principle that editing, like ink wash painting, is a moment of invisible but essential interaction with the mark of the author, giving complex ideas space to explode off the page.
Editing is collaborative and temporary. The ink and the paper will remain, but the water is a transient medium that will spread, set, and quickly leave. This is the role of the editor—to ensure the diffusion of ideas in pathways that lead directly to the greatest access.
Ideas that lie dense in the author’s brush meet the fiber of the page, assisted by a hidden force that will push the ideas out to readers’ eyes and ears.
